Sophia came from a well-placed Italian family that lost everything during the Napoleonic Wars and is now in England trying to recover a treasure that was stolen from her family. She tried to do this by herself to no avail but luckily she encounters her old friend Victor who not is agrees to help her but is also very much in love with her.
It was an ok story with plenty of drama and suspense to keep the plot going however, and I much as I tried, I could not submerge myself entirely into the story. The writing was flawless and as I said the plot was well-developed but I felt the pace was too slow and there was nothing of substance or climactic in the whole book. The past history between the characters didn't make up for the lack of sizzle or sexual tension I thought they needed even during intimate moments. Other readers may enjoy it but as it is I can only give it 2 stars.
